Gadjah Mada University held an international conference that will discuss the development of the field of civil engineering.
In cooperation with the Hokkaido University in Japan and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Germany, the conference is scheduled to last for 11 to 13 September 2012.
The conference titled ‘Sustainable Civil Engineering Structures and Construction Materials’ 150-an invite civil engineering experts from around the world. This conference presented 70 papers written by 25 civil engineers from Indonesia and 13 experts in the field from the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore.
Chairman of the organizing committee, said the meeting Bambang Suhendro civil engineering experts from various countries aimed to produce a number of alternative solutions that support infrastructure development that has excellent durability and environmentally friendly.
According to him, the theme of the conference is in line with the agenda of infrastructure development projects in Indonesia, which is done in the design of sustainable development. “The main problem in Indonesia is still in the hospitality aspect of the environment,” said Bambang.
He said infrastructure projects in Indonesia are often forgotten aspects of environmentally friendly both in terms of design, construction and maintenance. Perspective on the development of sustainable infrastructure in the country has also recently accommodated a small project alone. “Whereas civil engineering expert resource abundant in Indonesia,” he said.
Bambang added that the conference will formulate a number of recommendations for the development of the field of civil engineering structures. He also hoped civil engineering experts present also describing the recent research on construction materials with optimal resilience thus favoring sustainable development agenda in Indonesia.
