Indonesia Energy Plan

Does Indonesia have a target energy use from various sources (energy mix)? Got. In fact, the target is already embodied in Presidential Decree No. 5 of 2006 on National Energy Policy.

This decision states, in 2025 the use of petroleum is only 20 percent of total energy consumption is used. Meanwhile, natural gas 30 percent, coal 33 percent, biofuels (biodiesel and bioethanol) 5 percent, geothermal 5 percent, 5 percent water, and the remaining sources of energy.

To achieve the energy mix that was not easy. Until now, there has been no detailed master plan in each year. Today, oil still dominates 50 percent of energy consumption, nearly 30 percent of natural gas, coal, about 15 percent.

Dependence on high oil made energy subsidies continue to swell. Because, although more easily accessible, world oil prices continue to soar. While Indonesia is still importing oil and fuel oil. Not surprisingly, about 15-20% of the state budget spent on energy subsidies, especially electricity and fuel.

Finally, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources estimates that electricity subsidies in 2012 will reach Rp 58.72 trillion – an increase of Rp 10 trillion from this year.

To reduce the use of fuel oil, of course we have to immediately switch to other energy sources. One of the most possible is to multiply the uses of natural gas, which is economically cheaper than petroleum.

It’s just that once again is not the job lightly. To date, about 1,500 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day) domestic gas demand can not be met. Energy master plan that did not clearly outline the development of gas too dark.

The government did not have a case of the national gas supply management. Currently, more than 50 percent of national gas production would be exported. In fact, domestic consumer demand continues to increase.

However, the national gas problem was not solely a problem of supply but also the provision of transport management (which includes gas delivery infrastructure). It is important to maintain the national gas supply are well preserved.

The same applies also to the development of new and renewable energy. Target increased use of biodiesel to 10 percent is not achieved. Until now, the company still sells biodiesel fuel with a mixture of vegetable oils under 10 percent. As for the heat of the earth, only 4.1% of the 29,038 MW potential utilized.

Energy master plan that clearly made it urgent. Of course not just a map on paper, but a map that could guide the implementation of energy management in the field.
